QUIXTAR: On the brand: In defense of Amway

On the brand: In defense of Amway
Tuesday, September 11, 2007

The issue of transforming the business and transitioning to the Amway brand continues to fuel discussion - and it will for some time. In the following contribution to this blog, Aadil and MahJabeen Tayabee of Toronto opine passionately about their preference.

We were reading a book on the power of "word" and its history - what "word" stands for and its meaning - and we were fascinated that everything we speak is communicated in pictures.

When we think of the word Amway, it gives us a picture of two legendary leaders, Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel, and the business opportunity they have shared across the globe - spanning over 80 countries and territories since 1959.

Though it might sound like, and people might think, that the name change from Quixtar to Amway will affect the individual's business, we think otherwise.

In fact, we believe that the Amway name was and is the root of a tree. Its base will always be rock solid. The name Amway has stood and been time-tested. Its existence will help build large businesses. It is the name the two founders had given, which means AMERICAN WAY.

We as IBOs should salute the new generation of the DeVos and Van Andel families, for they have always stood on life's principles and we know whatever they choose to decide, they are doing good for all of us as IBOs and the Corporation.

We get goose bumps when we think of the new name coming in 24 months. It's going to revolutionize the whole global business.

We are proud of Amway/Quixtar/Alticor. Thank you for having the greatest and the best opportunity in the world!

It is my opinion that you need to be drug tested. If Amway is so good and the two legendary leaders, Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel, are so great and the name Amway stands for the American Way, then: (1) Why didn’t they listen to the American People that sat on the IBO Board? (2) Why are so many IBO’s disassociating their self from Quixtar/Amway?

What does quixtar think, they are Pharaoh? It sounds like they are saying "So let it be written!!!" Give me a break - we Americans are not that stupid!

Just because a word means something to yourself, it can mean an entirely different thing to another person, there are many examples. I have to wonder have you been out in the "field" lately or in an ivory tower? I am willing to bet 99.9% of the average person on the street doesn't even know of a VanAndel or a Devos.

you talk about standing on principles. The leaders of TEAM, are the one standing on principles because they are going to be the ones making the difference this country needs. They are God focused on the sole purpose of changing the hearts and minds of individuals through leadership training.

Good for you! You, unfortunately, are likely in the minority.

I think you are in a classic state of denial.

Stood and time tested? Sure. However, the question is: stood for what?

I will acknowledge that the tarnished image brought to most people's minds when they hear "Amway" is not the fault of the company itself. Most of the problems stemmed from the approach of independent distributors and prospect's first hand experiences.

But, to deny the tarnished reputation and pretend that the resurrection of the name will have any positive effect whatsoever is to invite the questioning of either one's motives or one's sanity.

We get goose bumps when we think of the new name coming in 24 months.

For those who knew Rich and Jay... we beleived their word. They were our rock... We had special products people could only get from us, that made us special. That was back then. Today you can get our exclusives on EBay and other online stores & sites, so we do not even have that left, the IBOAI board can't protect us any more. Rich personally told me we would always have that protection where no one could change the plan without the ADA Board's approval. That was also back then.

This is the beginning of the fall for the two “GREAT” legendary leaders, Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel. I sure hope that their families have a good retirement plan. Amway has, is and will be a foul word long after the corporation crumbles. Mr. DeVos and Mr. Van Andel only care about their families, NOT the families of all the IBO’s that they have impacted in a negative way over the last several months. As for the person that started is blog. with “In defense of Amway” I understand that The Mayo Clinic has a great Psychology department, maybe you should seek help with your issues of denial.

My children are having nightmares when they think of the new (same old Amway) name coming in 24 months.

Truly
Exceptional
And
More

Rich DeVos & Jay Van Andel started something VERY good; the lawyers currently running A/A/Q have looked to the bottom line, not to the best interests of people in the field trying to sell overpriced (now that the competition also has super concentration) reusable products. I love all the products I use (you should see my yearly ditto) but I feel I can buy them because I get back a % of my purchase. I cannot sustain repeat business, even at my cost, even to my own family! At age 71, I don't want a full-time job running around trying to sell things to cost conscious consumers. Features & Benefits are great - if you are not on a tight budget as are most people who are looking for another way to achieve their dreams. We need help, and I don't mean smaller packaging of still high priced items. A Nony Mouse

Hmmmm. Obviously these folks have not heard the near constant hum (if you are actually working the business - you hear it almost constantly), "This isn't Amway, is it?"

Most people don't even know why they don't want to be associated with Amway - they just know they have heard "things".

That was me. I don't believe that I would have gotten started if I had known that Quixtar was associated with Amway. I discovered that after I had some success. By then, I was sold. If on the other hand I had been approached by Amway, I would have been skeptical and nervous about contacting people, if I would have gotten started at all.

Most corporations poll what a name means to the general public. This has already been polled and the results extremely negative.
